From Startup to Standout: The Role of PR in a PI Firm's Meteoric Rise
Newsroom Public Relations’ role in the rise of West Coast Trial Lawyers, especially over the past eight years, is a textbook example of how strategic, consistent, and media-savvy PR can fuel exponential growth in an ultra-competitive industry like personal injury law.
What happens when a telegenic law firm president with a robust appetite for media appearances partners with a PR team that can deliver opportunities like a fleet of big net fishing boats? Here’s a review as a very out-of-the-box client relationship hits the eight-year mark…

Client: West Coast Trial Lawyers
Partnership Duration: 2017 - Present
Key Contact: Neama Rahmani, President and Co-Founder
PR Partner: Newsroom PR
It’s August 2017, and new law partners Neama Rahmani and Allen Patatanyan are sitting in their rented Downtown Los Angeles office, wondering how their nascent personal injury firm, West Coast Trial Lawyers, can dominate the overcrowded, ultracompetitive Los Angeles market. Assets are at a minimum — an SBA loan and capital from Patatanyan’s remortgaged house, and not much cash to spare.
Enter Newsroom PR — an international collaborative of publicists and journalists specialized in getting great press for the legal community.
“How much press can you get us?” Rahmani asked.
“How much can you handle?” responded Newsroom PR CEO Howard Breuer, a veteran of People Magazine, Reuters and other top media outlets and a Lawdragon Global Top 100 Legal Consultant four years in a row.
They agreed that the sky was the limit, entering a collaboration that would redefine how much a boutique PR agency can do to help a media-savvy client become wildly successful.
Media Placements
The Strategy
For starters, WCTL needed more than just a few good headlines — it needed a comprehensive public relations strategy to turn its underdog origin story into a commanding brand presence. The firm had to break through a crowded media landscape, elevate its attorneys as trusted voices on legal matters, and secure meaningful media attention that would resonate with potential clients and peers alike.
In short, WCTL needed more than a PR firm.
It needed a team that understood how legal stories break, how news cycles move, and how to position attorneys as front-line commentators on the most pressing legal issues of the day.
At the core of Newsroom PR’s strategy was a bold and effective positioning decision: build the firm’s public image around Rahmani’s uniquely credentialed background as a Harvard Law grad, former federal prosecutor of cartel-connected smugglers, and former Director of Enforcement for L.A.’s City Ethics Commission. Though Rahmani had the résumé, he wasn’t yet a media mainstay. That would change.
The team pitched Rahmani’s insights on breaking news stories, trending legal controversies, and major cases within hours, if not minutes, of stories breaking. By tracking media cycles in real time and aligning them with his experience, Newsroom PR turned him into a trusted voice in national legal coverage, significantly raising WCTL’s public profile. Rahmani soon appeared on major outlets including PBS, ABC7, Fox News, USA Today, and Court TV offering commentary on high-profile cases involving figures like Bill Cosby, Soulja Boy and Jodi Arias.
“As personal injury lawyers, we have had to overcome many stereotypes. Newsroom helped establish West Coast Trial Lawyers as a credible authority in the field and has highlighted my background as a former federal prosecutor. While other firms buy airtime, major networks come to Ron and I for legal insight, thanks to Newsroom PR.”

The campaign also left no stone unturned, promoting WCTL’s litigation in personal injury and employment, and other other areas, reaching well beyond what PR firms do for clients.
In 2022, Rahmani released his memoir, Harvard to Hashtag: My Journey from Big Law to Business Owner, co-authored by Newsroom PR team member Gina Keating. Newsroom PR integrated the book into the firm’s broader media strategy, positioning Rahmani not just as a top legal mind, but as a business leader, entrepreneur, and author. The campaign generated targeted coverage that elevated both his brand and the firm’s credibility across legal, business, and mainstream media.
That same year, WCTL and Newsroom PR both saw untapped potential in Southern California’s vast and diverse Spanish-speaking population. WCTL launched Abogados de la Costa Oeste, a Spanish-language law practice designed to connect directly with the region’s Hispanic community. Newsroom PR simultaneously built a dedicated bilingual media team (which is still very active and growing) that translates litigation materials and identifies media angles to pitch partner Ron Zambrano as a trusted legal voice to outlets such as Univision and Telemundo. He has since appeared on dozens of Spanish-language programs.
Around this time in 2022, Newsroom PR expanded from having a broadcast PR specialist to having a broadcast team helmed by former Associated Press Deputy News Director Brian Skoloff and including former MSNBC Correspondent Jennifer London, Newsroom’s New York Bureau Chief Tilly Friedlander and, most recently, Senior Publicist Bertha Merikanskas, who has held senior roles across Latin America for Weber Shandwick and Edelman.
“We would strongly recommend hiring a PR firm, and especially Newsroom PR, to help with gaining more exposure, which will ultimately lead to more cases. The increased visibility is essential for any law firm in a highly competitive area. Lead generation services may drive leads, but PR converts them.”

By January 2023, WCTL had grown enough to enable Rahmani to devote more time to media, and the expanding Newsroom PR team behind him was ready to oblige. The ensuing surge in media commentary helped bring the firm its own high-profile cases.
In the 48 hours after New Mexico prosecutors charged Alec Baldwin with involuntary manslaughter, Rahmani scored a marathon 27 appearances including The Sun, Daily Mail, Reuters, The Daily Beast, Fox News, The Wrap and USA Today.
The following month, Zambrano secured dozens of media appearances including Good Morning America to discuss a wrongful-termination lawsuit he filed on behalf of a former nanny of actors Olivia Wilde and Jason Sudeikis.
That summer, WCTL sued Lizzo on behalf of three background dancers who alleged harassment, discrimination, assault, false imprisonment, and retaliatory termination against the Grammy award-winning artist. With Newsroom PR’s help, WCTL secured 400 print/online and 63 broadcast/digital video placements including The New York Times, the Washington Post, Los Angeles Times, CNN, the TODAY show, Good Morning America (two days in a row), MSNBC and hundreds more.
The firm also filed a slew of major litigation against Kanye West, Megan Thee Stallion, Jason Derulo and Shaquille O’Neal, among others.
The one-two punch of securing major media appearances and attracting high-profile cases continued to pay dividends in the second weekend of April 2025. Rahmani spoke to The New York Times and other media about the firm’s highly publicized $4 million win against rapper Soulja Boy amid back-to-back appearances on CNN and Fox News discussing the Menendez brothers.
The Menendez appearances paled in comparison to WCTL’s commentary on the Sean “Diddy” Combs trial, for which the firm landed a staggering 455 media placements across national and international outlets from April to June of 2025, with Rahmani emerging as a repeat, go-to analyst for Laura Coates Live on CNN.
The Victory
Eight years after they met with Newsroom PR, WCTL has its own sprawling, three-story office building in downtown L.A., replete with a TV studio. It’s the official Personal Injury Firm sponsor of L.A. Galaxy and is in partnership with UNLV Athletics. It has offices in Phoenix and Las Vegas (an overall 200 employees across three states who have won more than $1.7 billion for their clients).
It’s one of the most notable success stories among California-based personal injury firms in the past decade, with growth well above average for the industry. WCTL is still hungry to grow, but due in part to the huge media exposure, many big cases come to them.
“We would strongly recommend hiring a PR firm, and especially Newsroom PR, to help with gaining more exposure, which will ultimately lead to more cases,” Rahmani said. “The increased visibility is essential for any law firm in a highly competitive area. Lead generation services may drive leads, but PR converts them.”
“I have an amazing team of publicists including Howard Breuer, Brian Skoloff, Jennifer London, Tilly Friedlander, and the rest of the Newsroom Public Relations team who work tirelessly to get me television interviews. I couldn't have gotten here without them, and if you need an introduction to them, please let me know.”

Breuer notes that not every client needs WCTL-level media to achieve growth and value from PR. He said most clients do a small fraction of these appearances and placements, and are delighted with the outcome and the ROI.
The WCTL story, he said, simply showcases what can be achieved when a law firm with unbridled enthusiasm for media appearances uses an unrivaled PR team like a fleet of big-net fishing boats to deliver major media hits.
“Those results are there for everybody to see,” Breuer concluded. “Especially for folks watching the news.”
